Section 1. The right of citizens of the United States to vote in any primary or other election for President or Vice President, for electors for President or Vice President, or for Senator or Representative in Congress, shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any State by reason of failure to pay any poll tax or other tax.
Section 2. The Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.
Section 1. US Citizens should not be prevented from voting in any federal election due to failure to pay a poll tax or any other tax, which was mainly used by Southern states to prevent African Americans from voting.
Section 2. This section gives Congress the authority to pass laws to enforce this amendment, to make sure states don’t put up any barriers to prevent people from voting such as the poll taxes that were in place before.
This amendment was another step towards inclusion and eliminating discrimination due to the Jim Crow laws in place at the Southern States. This allowed more African Americans and people from low-income communities to get their voices heard in politics, which should be happening because everyone has the right to vote no matter their race or social status.
